God is So Good!

It’s never too late to be used by God. Having come to faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 59 –– after 17 years of prayer from my two daughters –– I was introduced to an outreach that distributes wheelchairs in underprivileged countries. The wheelchairs provide mobility, but most importantly, the purpose of these outreaches is to share the love of Christ and the hope offered through the Good News of the gospel!

In 2013, I had my first privilege of serving in Cajamarca, Peru. I loved it! It was an amazing experience. My role was as a support volunteer. I spent each day at a workstation with three other volunteers: a seating-specialist (physical or occupational therapist), a mechanic, and an interpreter. The experience was filled with interaction with wheelchair recipients and their families. Such a joy to serve the Lord in this way!

Over the years of serving, my outreach role changed from support volunteer to seamstress. In 2023, Pinar del Rio, Cuba, God placed me at a sewing machine overlooking eight workstations. The closest workstation was right in front of me. My granddaughter, on her first wheelchair outreach, was the seating-specialist at the station right in front of me! Only God could orchestrate that! What a joy!

This latest outreach in Cuba in 2025 began with me behind a sewing machine for five days. One of my gifts from God is the ability to sew and sewing plays a significant role in outfitting wheelchairs. But 1-1/2 days into the outreach as seamstress, my sewing machine was taken away for repairs, freeing me to serve again as a support volunteer. Right in front of me this time stood a sweet recipient family. While their sister was being served, two antsy siblings needed love and a little distraction. God knows my heart for children and allowed me to play with them and share the love of Jesus. This unexpected blessing, so personal to me, grew my relationship with Him even deeper.

It’s never too late to begin loving God and serving Him. It’s the adventure of a lifetime.
